What this is
Black-and-white still of a man in a dark suit sitting in an airplane window seat, eyes closed and grimacing, while a hairy humanoid creature with a snarling face presses against the window behind him.
How it's used
Two-element reaction template: the man stands for someone deliberately ignoring an obvious problem, and the creature at the window for the problem itself. Captions usually label the monster with the thing being avoided, or use the line "if I ignore it, maybe it will go away."
History
The October 30, 2006 edition of the Penny Arcade webcomic is entitled "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet", a title taken from the classic 1963 Twilight Zone episode starring William Shatner. } Co-pilot: Oh, God… The Captain's dead… He's dead!
